Description Kitamu is a coffee blend is sourced from Karatu district which is located in the Ngorongoro region of Tanzania. Karatu is a region of the country most famous for its close proximity to the famous Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti national parks which have an abundance of animals and the region is home to the Masaai and Iraqw Tribes. The name Kitamu means “sweet” in Swahili and is a term used in describing something that tastes delicious. The majority of this blend is made up of coffee from Heights Estate and Kongoni Estate. Heights Estate is located just 7km from the town of Karatu and borders the Ngorongoro Crater. The highest elevation on the farm is 1,780 meters which makes the estate the highest coffee plantation in the region, hence the name “heights”. Kongoni Estate is located on the south western slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater and covers a large area of over 400 hectares of coffee. Over the last 10 years the owners have been working hard to rejuvenate the farm as many of the coffee trees were badly damaged due to buffalo and elephants. The farm has built channels throughout the farm allowing the animals to pass safely and not interfere with the coffee production.
